Zeiss to Showcase New Digital AI Tools and Surgical Solutions at AAO

Zeiss will unveil a range of digital enhancements and surgical solutions at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) conference, running from October 19-21, 2024, in Chicago. These innovations span cataract, corneal refractive, retina, and glaucoma workflows, offering a digitally connected environment aimed at advancing clinical workflows and elevating personalized patient care.
“Zeiss continues to expand its digital leadership in ophthalmology, offering new, pioneering clinical tools that enhance the digital workflow for both patients and surgeons,” said Dr. Euan S. Thomson, Head of the Digital Business Unit for Zeiss Medical Technology. “With our Health Data Platform, part of the Zeiss Medical Ecosystem, we provide data-driven healthcare solutions that help surgeons deliver more efficient and personalized care throughout the patient journey.”
Transforming the Refractive Workflow
Zeiss will introduce Zeiss VisioGen, an AI-driven solution that enhances patient engagement and streamlines clinic operations. VisioGen is designed to leverage generative AI (GenAI) to help clinics respond quickly and effectively to patient inquiries, improving consultation rates through personalized communication. This software solution aids refractive practices by automating responses with verified content, helping clinics save time and improve accuracy.
In addition, Zeiss celebrates a major milestone: More than 10 million eyes have been treated using Zeiss SMILE and Zeiss SMILE pro technologies. Zeiss was the first to make lenticule extraction for laser vision correction commercially available in 2011, and its SMILE solutions remain among the most trusted for safe, effective vision correction. Zeiss will also showcase the Visumax 800, an FDA-approved femtosecond laser for treating nearsightedness, with or without astigmatism. The new laser cuts treatment time and improves workflow flexibility, creating a lenticule in less than 10 seconds.
Pioneering Innovations in Cataract Surgery
Zeiss continues to shape cataract surgery with the Zeiss IOLMaster, the most widely used optical biometer in the world. Now celebrating 25 years of innovation in optical biometry, Zeiss is introducing the Zeiss MICOR 700, a hand-held lens removal device that operates without ultrasound, creating a gentler patient experience and providing surgeons with expanded intraocular working space.
Additionally, Zeiss will present its advanced surgical microscopes, including the ARTEVO 850 and the ARTEVO 750, which offer enhanced depth of field, high-resolution imaging, and integrated data overlays for real-time surgical monitoring.
Redefining Retinal Care
Zeiss will also be showcasing its Zeiss Retina Workflow, offering a comprehensive suite of connected diagnostic solutions, advanced visualization, and therapeutic lasers for disease detection and management. The CIRRUS 6000 OCT, with its expanded Reference Database, delivers individualized care with faster acquisition and improved data analysis capabilities.
New to the portfolio is the DORC EVA NEXUS surgical system, offering advanced vitreoretinal instrumentation and cutting speeds of up to 20,000 cuts per minute, while the VISULAS combi therapeutic laser offers digital integration with Zeiss FORUM for streamlined retina treatment workflows.
