Zeiss to Showcase Advancements in Ophthalmic Visualization and Digital Workflow at AAO 2025

Zeiss Medical Technology will present its latest innovations in ophthalmic visualization, diagnostics, and digital workflow solutions at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) annual meeting, taking place October 18–20, 2025, in Orlando.
“Zeiss continues to be at the forefront of optical and digital innovation, advancing our clinical workflows to be more efficient and empowering for doctors and surgeons around the world to deliver more precise and personalized care for their patients,” said Magnus Reibenspiess, Head of Strategic Business Unit Ophthalmology at Zeiss Medical Technology.
Advancing Visualization and Efficiency in Retinal Care
At AAO 2025, Zeiss will spotlight the Zeiss Retina Workflow, a fully connected, data-driven solution spanning diagnostics, surgery, and postoperative care. This integrated ecosystem enhances data continuity, procedural efficiency, and clinical decision-making throughout the retina care pathway.
Among the featured innovations:
Clarus 700 with ICGA — Now with 510(k) clearance and CE approval, the latest Clarus 700 delivers high-resolution, ultra-widefield imaging with standalone ICG, simultaneous FA-ICG capture, and a new movie mode for all angiography modalities. These advancements improve pathology detection and streamline diagnostic workflows.
100 Years of Fundus Imaging — Zeiss celebrates a century of innovation since introducing the first commercially available fundus camera with Johan Nordenson in 1926, marking 100 years of pioneering ocular imaging technology.
OCT Innovations and Clinical Education
Zeiss will also highlight its OCT and OCT-A technologies, providing clinicians with enhanced image quality and diagnostic insights. To promote best practices, Zeiss has released OCT-A Simplified, an educational eBook authored by Ricardo Luz Leitão Guerra, MD, MSc, FICO, offering practical guidance on image acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. Complimentary copies will be available at Zeiss booth #2261.
Recent milestones include the Cirrus PathFinder, a CE-marked clinical decision support tool powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Integrated directly into OCT workflows, PathFinder accelerates image interpretation and enhances surgical planning efficiency, particularly in high-volume practices.
Optimizing Surgical Performance with DORC and ARTEVO Enhancements
To support vitreoretinal surgeons, Zeiss and DORC will introduce new instruments and system updates within the Zeiss Retinal Workflow, including:
25G and 27G Subretinal Injection Cannulae, featuring a 41G extendible tip for smoother injections. These cannulae are compatible with the Eva Nexus Inicio Micro-Injection System, the only FDA-cleared system for subretinal injections in the U.S.
Midfield Endoillumination Light Probe, offering a 60° homogeneous illumination field with sharply defined edges for improved intraocular visualization. Available in 23G, 25G, and 27G sizes.
Eva Nexus Platform with Angled EquiPhaco, designed for optimized irrigation flow and stable intraocular pressure through Smart IOP technology.
Callisto Eye Software Update for the Artevo 750 and Artevo 850, enabling up to 30% higher magnification, customizable visualization settings, and new 3D recording and toric IOL alignment features.
Integrated Glaucoma and Cataract Workflow Solutions
Zeiss will also demonstrate its connected cataract and glaucoma workflows, designed to streamline diagnosis, planning, and surgical execution. By connecting devices such as the SL 800, Clarus, Cirrus OCT, Artevo, and Visulas, and unifying data through the Zeiss Forum platform, surgeons can achieve continuous insights for earlier detection and more confident decision-making.
With glaucoma present in approximately 20% of cataract patients, this integration helps improve long-term outcomes and surgical efficiency.
Empowering Ophthalmic Research and Collaboration
Zeiss will showcase the Research Data Platform (RDP)—a secure, cloud-based, AI-driven solution enabling multi-center research and real-world evidence generation. The platform supports AI model training, biomarker development, and cross-institutional collaboration, while maintaining compliance and data security.
Additionally, Zeiss will preview the next generation of its browser-based data management solution, seamlessly integrating with EMR systems and supporting diagnostic data from both Zeiss and non-Zeiss devices. Key features include color-coded alerts, OCT and visual field trend analysis, and interactive analytics—available through flexible subscription models.
Celebrating Global Momentum in Refractive Surgery
Zeiss will also celebrate a refractive milestone—over 12 million eyes treated with Smile and Smile Pro worldwide. These procedures, performed using the VisuMax and VisuMax 800 platforms, continue to gain adoption globally as trusted, minimally invasive lenticule extraction solutions.
Zeiss Medical Technology will showcase its latest technologies and workflow innovations at booth #2261 during the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting, October 18–20, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
