Zeiss to Showcase 3D Visualization and AI Innovations at Euretina 2024

Zeiss Medical Technology will unveil its latest digital innovations, including advanced 3D visualization technology, as part of the Zeiss Retina Workflow at the upcoming European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) conference, September 19-22, 2024, in Barcelona.
Among the innovations is the inclusion of DORC’s EVA NEXUS surgical system, a recent addition to Zeiss' ophthalmic surgery portfolio. The EVA NEXUS provides efficiency, improved stability, and higher responsiveness during surgeries, enhancing the Zeiss Retina Workflow.
Revolutionizing Ophthalmic Surgery with 3D Visualization
A key highlight of Zeiss' showcase will be its ARTEVO 850 3D digital ophthalmic microscope, which is designed for both anterior and posterior segment surgeries. The ARTEVO 850 offers customizable 3D visualization, true-color imaging, and an expanded depth of field by nearly 60%. With digital integration into the surgical workflow and real-time intraoperative OCT, surgeons can make confident decisions during vitreoretinal surgeries. The system's Digital Color Assistant (DCA) further enhances anatomical details through digital color coding.
Professor Siegfried Priglinger from Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich emphasized the benefits of Zeiss' 3D heads-up system: “With intraoperative OCT, I’ve experienced the advantage of preoperative diagnostics and intraoperative work now being connected together.”
Innovations for Retinal Surgery and Diagnostics
Zeiss will also introduce its single-use lenses for the RESIGHT fundus viewing system, designed to provide retinal surgeons with a clear and uncompromised view for every procedure. These disposable lenses ensure patient safety while delivering superior visualization.
Professor Peter Stalmans from UZ Leuven, Belgium, praised the single-use lenses for reducing the need for high illumination during surgery, further benefiting patient outcomes.
Additionally, the EVA NEXUS system will be on display, showcasing its control and responsiveness during surgeries. As one of the most advanced dual-function vitreoretinal and cataract surgical systems, EVA NEXUS forms a vital part of Zeiss' vitreoretinal surgery portfolio.
AI-Powered Tools Transform Retinal Workflows
Zeiss is also leading advancements in AI-driven ophthalmic care. The company will demonstrate its CIRRUS PathFinder, a deep learning AI-based tool designed to streamline OCT data review. This technology enables more efficient analysis of large volumes of diagnostic data and provides insights to optimize treatment paths and improve patient care.
The company’s AI-powered Surgery Optimizer will also make its debut at EURETINA, simplifying the export, review, and documentation of surgery videos. A spatial computing app compatible with Apple Vision Pro will offer an exclusive demonstration, showcasing how surgeons can view surgery videos, eye scans, and patient information in 2D and 3D simultaneously.
