WCO, Alcon Launch Dry Eye Management Map for Optometrists Worldwide

03/23/2026

The World Council of Optometry (WCO) and Alcon have launched the Dry Eye Management Map, a new online interactive tool designed to help optometrists evaluate and manage dry eye disease in clinical practice. According to the organizations, the tool is part of their multiyear professional education partnership and is intended for optometrists worldwide.

The Dry Eye Management Map incorporates guidance from the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society Dry Eye Workshop III and generates management approaches based on selected dry eye drivers, including tear film deficiencies, eyelid anomalies, and ocular surface abnormalities. Users can select multiple underlying and sub-drivers, and the tool then produces potential management options as well as standard and advanced testing options for consideration.

The resulting report provides a concise summary of the recommended and clinician-selected management pathway. A built-in email function allows the summary to be sent for later review or inclusion in patient records. The organizations noted that the tool is intended to support clinical decision-making, while the optometrist remains responsible for final medical judgment.

At launch, the Dry Eye Management Map is available in English, with additional languages expected in the coming months. WCO and Alcon said the tool complements the multilingual WCO Alcon Dry Eye Wheel and expands the resources available through their fifth-year dry eye education initiative, which also includes expert-led videos and other professional tools.
