Watchful Waiting OK in Diabetic Macular Edema With Good Vision
Among patients with center-involved diabetic macular edema (DME) who had good visual acuity, there were no significant differences in vision loss over a 2-year period for those who were initially managed with watchful waiting as compared with those who underwent treatment with laser photocoagulation or aflibercept (multiple brands), according to a Medscape report. Aflibercept is administered as an anti-VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) intraocular injection.
The Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research (DRCR) Retina Network study is the first to evaluate management strategies for Cl-DME in eyes with good visual acuity. The results were published online this week in JAMA.
