VSY Biotechnology’s Rotaryjet Preloaded Injector Has Been Registered by the European Patent Institute
VSY Biotechnology’s invention, the Rotaryjet Preloaded Injector containing an accessory system for the storage and injection of an IOL, has been registered by the European Patent Institute (EPI). This newly patented technology minimizes the use of viscoelastic material in IOL implantation and provides ease of use, according to a company news release.
The features of the Rotaryjet enable ophthalmologists to perform cataract surgeries quickly and safely. Rotaryjet features a specially designed lens-folding system, allowing cataract surgery to be performed without having to place the lens into the injector. The aim is to reduce the human-induced error ratio during the lens’s preparation before the surgery and to reduce the duration of the surgery by facilitating the procedure. With only a 60-degree rotational movement, 130-degreee IOL folding can be achieved. Therefore, a small rotation is enough to complete the IOL folding in the cartridge, according to VSY Biotechnology.
With the help of the injector, the risk of contamination that might arise during the preoperative preparation process is also minimized and thus patient safety is predicted to increase. The Rotaryjet can be used with a balanced salt solution (BSS), thereby reducing the use of viscoelastic material in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange operations (RLE), and thus lowering the operation cost by providing ease of use with its patented folding technique.
The Rotaryjet has already been granted a patent in Luxemburg and Turkey in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
