Visionary Optics New Scleral Lens Design, Europa Tangent

Visionary Optics announced the launch of Europa Tangent, a scleral lens that combines a customizable design with a streamlined fitting process. The lens design is based on clinical experience and analysis of over 10,000 fittings driven by profilometry data and Visionary Optics’ scleral shape classification expertise, according to a company news release. 

The Europa Tangent design offers a streamlined, 3-zone step-system designed to ensure advanced customization options remain available to eye care providers (ECPs) and their patients. The design has one landing zone curve, engineered to follow the natural slope of the scleral surface. This form offers a smoother, softer transition to the landing zone, patterned after Visionary Optics’ free-form lens design. A softer landing can eliminate the compression and blanching commonly observed during the fitting process, according to Visionary Optics. 

“We were fortunate to work with the Europa Tangent lens before its release. The lens design excels in both fit and comfort. This design is more predictable with settling and allows me to come to a final fit more quickly. By lowering our remake percentage, improving compression and impingement issues, and improving patient comfort, the Europa Tangent has become the number one lens used in my practice,” said Randy Charrier, OD, FAAO, Family Vision Solutions, Texas.

The lens is positioned to make free-form lens design benefits available to both new scleral lens fitters who are seeking a streamlined, easy-to-understand fitting process, as well as current Visionary Optics fitters who are acquainted with the benefits of a lens patterned after a free-form design.
