Topcon Healthcare Invests in Senseye to Advance Mental Health Diagnostics Through the Eye
Topcon Healthcare announced a strategic investment in Senseye, which is developing a mental health diagnostic platform powered by ocular biomarkers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
According to Topcon, Senseye’s technology uses AI and computer vision to analyze pupil dynamics and eye movement captured via a standard smartphone camera. These ocular signals are translated into validated digital biomarkers to support diagnosis and monitoring of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
This marks Topcon Healthcare’s first investment in mental health and neuropsychiatry, extending its 'Healthcare from the Eye' vision. The initiative leverages ocular data as a noninvasive window into the brain, enabling earlier detection and monitoring of chronic diseases.
Unlike conventional mental health evaluations—typically reliant on subjective questionnaires—the Senseye solution offers a scalable, objective, and non-invasive alternative. Its accessibility makes it particularly valuable in primary care and underserved communities, where behavioral health specialists are scarce.
For eye care professionals, the integration of Senseye technology opens the possibility of detecting neuropsychiatric risk factors during routine eye exams and facilitating timely referrals to primary care providers.

The collaboration lays the foundation for embedding Senseye’s technology into Harmony, Topcon Healthcare’s connected care platform. Harmony currently integrates imaging, AI analytics, and data sharing across clinical settings. With the addition of Senseye’s ocular biomarker technology, Harmony may help clinicians achieve a holistic view of each patient’s physical and mental health status—through the eye.
