Shamir Launches Spark 4W Digital Electro-Optic Measurement System

Shamir announced the launch of the Spark 4W, a digital electro-optic measurement system based on 3D stereo vision technology and artificial intelligence (AI) elements. Shamir Spark 4W is designed to enable eye care professionals (ECPs) to obtain precise and automatic measurements of their patients’ pupillary distance in just one click.
Spark 4W, which builds on the capabilities of Spark 4, operates on Wi-Fi allowing the new standalone system to be located anywhere in the store. It also carries an integrated CPU. The Shamir Spark 4W also comes with a new app—Shamir Spark Remote—which enables ECPs to quickly capture the pupillary distance using any mobile device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) and complete the process by filling in the additional parameters once the patient has left the store, according to Shamir.
Shamir’s AI vision algorithm is designed to detect and process 192 facial landmarks provided by the sophisticated camera system, featuring six high-resolution 24-megapixel camera sensors that deliver ultrasharp images. Two active near-infrared cameras allow an unobstructed view of the patient’s pupils, and four additional color cameras take crisp images of any eyewear, including sunglasses.
“Shamir Spark 4W provides patients with a touch-free experience that preserves their personal space while providing a highly professional examination," Zohar Katzman, Shamir's Chief Technology Officer, said in a company news release. "Beyond accurately filling the patient’s prescription, ECPs can optimize vision correction and, through 'As-Worn POV' technology, ensure the lens delivers optimal vision in the chosen frame. Its accuracy ensures that lenses are precisely fitted to each patient, minimizing non-adaptation and vision correction.”
