Shamir Glacier PLUS Metaform on 1.6 and 1.67 Now Available
Shamir announced the availability of the new Glacier PLUS Metaform lens-coating technology, which uses fewer resources and chemicals in its production than its premium AR coating, making it an eco-friendly option for consumers.
According to Shamir, features of the new lens coating include:
Up to 40% thinner & lighter than regular minus lenses
Up to 18 times stronger than the FDA standard requirement
Up to 80% more energy efficient in production process compared to alternatives
Strong, aesthetic and comfortable to wear.
Glacier PLUS Metaform technology features new materials in 1.6 and 1.67, which are designed to be strong, thin, and light. The lens technology creates a new breed of lenses by rapidly fusing a multi-feature "Preform" overlay, which combines a range of optical and physical properties in an eco-friendly thermoforming process, according to Shamir. The Preform contains a resistant optical film which is also used by the automobile, aviation, and space industries, due to its impact resistance qualities, enabling a thinner and lighter lens.
“The optical industry went through a revolution with the launch of Freeform, and with Glacier PLUS Metaform we are proud to introduce the next technological revolution in the world of optics, breaking the boundaries of what’s possible in lens production," Yagen Moshe, CEO of Shamir Optical, said in a news release. “Shamir has always been known for revolutionizing customer experience with new innovations. Glacier PLUS Metaform technology takes the experience even further, using special materials and algorithms ensuring rapid production, uniform quality from lens to lens and clearer vision.”
