Rayner announced the approval of RayOne EMV by Health Canada. Developed in collaboration with Professor Graham Barrett, RayOne EMV is the only patented aspheric IOL that induces controlled positive spherical aberration to slightly extend the depth of focus, according to Rayner [1].

“I’ve been awaiting Health Canada approval of RayOne EMV since hearing about the great outcomes achieved by colleagues from around the world and am excited to begin offering it to my patients. RayOne EMV will be an important addition to our IOL armamentarium for patients desiring spectacle independence beyond a standard monofocal,” Paul Sanghera, MD, FRCSC, cofounder of Lumea and Clarity Eye Institute, said in a company news release.

Unlike some IOLs which utilize diffraction to increase depth of focus, the controlled positive spherical aberration induced by RayOne EMV spreads light along the visual axis. To date, over 335,000 RayOne EMVs have been successfully implanted worldwide, according to Rayner.
