Oertli Unveils OS 4 Up Surgical Platform at Euretina and ESCRS image

Oertli Instrumente showcased its latest innovation, the OS 4 Up surgical platform for both vitreoretinal and cataract surgery, to attendees at the Euretina and ESCRS congresses. The platform was accompanied by two new instruments—the Caliburn Trocar System and the Continuous Flow Cutter—designed to elevate precision and efficiency in the operating room.

According to Oertli, every element of the OS 4 Up and its companion instruments was engineered with the goal of enabling surgeons and OR staff to enjoy surgery. Each component is powerful in isolation, but together they unleash their full potential, combining physics and fluidics in harmony. Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, the OS 4 Up introduces several features, including a dynamic infusion concept, which responds in real time to intraoperative dynamics. According to Oertli, this advancement allows surgeons to maintain lower IOP levels in both anterior and posterior procedures—closer to physiologic norms.

In cataract surgery, the Phaco Assisted Cataract Surgery (PACS) function is designed to ensure smooth, consistent energy delivery, akin to cruise control, providing controlled phacoemulsification regardless of cataract grade.

The Caliburn Trocar System features a patented design that supports controlled and continuous penetration force, enabling smooth, effortless insertion into the sclera. The transition from knife to bevelled cannula is seamless, aiding in precise trocar placement. Meanwhile, the Continuous Flow Cutter aims to enhance surgical efficiency by delivering 60% more aspiration in 23G*, supporting a steady surgical flow and a smoother operative pace from start to finish.

“Surgeons and OR teams dedicate thousands of hours in the operating theater preserving eyesight. With the OS 4 Up, complemented by our innovative instruments, we enable them to enjoy their surgery – working with confidence, efficiency and joy, while delivering the best outcomes for patients," said Thomas Bosshard, Co-CEO of Oertli.
