Oertli Launches the ViPer Illuminated Scleral Indentor for Retinal Surgery

01/22/2020

Oertli Instrumente announced the launch of the ViPer illuminated scleral indentor, an illuminated indentor for retinal surgery.

The ViPer facilitates work in the periphery of the posterior eye segment thanks to its ability to indent and illuminate transsclerally at the same time. Simultaneous indenting and transscleral illumination allow the surgeon to work autonomously without requiring further support by additional OR personnel. It also provides the surgeon with an enhanced view of the retinal periphery, according to Oertli.

The ViPer is semi-transparent and therefore anti-glare and backscatter-free. The consistent illumination of the indented tissue improves the view of the retinal periphery, while the rounded 360° tip ensures easy application and excellent mobility. A slim profile also provides sufficient space between the eye speculum and the wall of the eyeball, minimizing the risk of the formation of wrinkles and conjunctival injuries. The smooth material surface provides improved mobility on the eyeball. Thanks to its closed geometry, the ViPer can be used several times during the same surgery.

The ViPer illuminated scleral indentor demonstrates its numerous remarkable benefits particularly in its applications at peripheral tissue layers. It can be used ideally to remove the vitreous base or to check the area for foramina. Due to transscleral illumination, retinal defects can be visualized particularly clearly, which also allows application of the ViPer in buckle surgery.
