Oculus Debuts Dual Testing Functionality on Easyfield VR for Enhanced Visual Field Assessment

Oculus has announced the debut of dual testing functionality on its Oculus Easyfield VR, which allows for both Frequency Doubling Perimetry (FDP) and Standard Automated Perimetry (SAP).
The integration of Frequency Doubling Perimetry into the Easyfield VR allows for the potential detection of visual field defects with sensitivity and precision. FDP’s capabilities enable practitioners to identify and assess visual field loss more accurately, leading to earlier and more effective intervention for patients. This is particularly critical in the early stages of diseases such as glaucoma, where timely detection can significantly alter the course of treatment," according to Oculus.
Complementing FDP, Standard Automated Perimetry, often regarded as the gold standard in comprehensive visual field assessment, is also included in the Easyfield VR. SAP quantifies the extent and pattern of visual field loss, providing data for monitoring disease progression. Together, these two methodologies offer practitioners versatile tool for delivering superior patient care.
According to Oculus, practitioners can initially configure the device with one testing strategy and easily upgrade to a dual configuration as their needs evolve. The Easyfield VR can operate in a fully lit room without requiring an internet connection, a feature that streamlines practice operations and helps reduce scheduling backlogs associated with traditional perimeters.
“My technicians have become 33% more efficient since adding the Easyfield VR pre-testing to my clinic,” William Tullo, OD, said in a company news release. “While patients complete audio-guided exams autonomously, my techs can prep for the next patient, enabling them to field 2-4 more patients per hour.”
The Easyfield VR integrates into existing Oculus systems, allowing clinicians who already use devices like the Pentacam and Keratograph to incorporate visual field data into their patient database. This integration enhances practice efficiency by centralizing patient management and maintaining a familiar workflow throughout the care lifecycle.
The Oculus Easyfield VR is now available in the US. Interested parties can experience the Easyfield VR at upcoming tradeshows or learn more by visiting Oculus USA’s website.
