Oculis and Euretina Announce Winner of Inaugural Ramin Tadayoni Award

Oculis, in partnership with Euretina, has announced the first recipient of the Ramin Tadayoni Award: Dr. Andrea Govetto, MD, PhD. The award honors the memory of Oculis' late Chief Scientific Officer and renowned retina specialist, Professor Ramin Tadayoni, MD, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this year.
The prestigious award was established to pay tribute to Professor Tadayoni's contributions to the field of retina research. Dr. Govetto, a vitreoretinal surgeon from Milan, Italy, was selected as the inaugural recipient for his groundbreaking work developing a computational model of fluid flow and retinal tissue deformation in macular edema.
"We received over 50 highly competitive submissions. Dr. Govetto’s innovative research on fluid flow and retinal tissue deformation is a fitting tribute to Prof. Tadayoni’s legacy. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to him," Dr. Anat Loewenstein, President of Euretina, said in a news release.
Oculis' CEO, Dr. Riad Sherif, also expressed his admiration for Dr. Govetto: "We are honored to support the Ramin Tadayoni Award with Euretina. Dr. Govetto is a rising star in ophthalmology, and his dedication to advancing retinal disease research embodies the spirit of this award and Professor Tadayoni's lasting impact on the field."
Dr. Govetto, who is based at the Oftalmico-Fatebenefratelli Hospital in Milan, has made significant strides in understanding retinal pathologies, particularly focusing on the vitreoretinal interface and retinal detachment. His work on the pathophysiology of lamellar macular holes and epiretinal membrane traction has earned him numerous accolades. He completed his ophthalmology specialization in Spain, along with clinical and surgical fellowships in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The Ramin Tadayoni Award, which includes €30,000 in research funding and a €5,000 personal prize, recognizes the next generation of retina specialists who demonstrate extraordinary potential. Dr. Govetto received the award from Dr. Loewenstein during the opening ceremony of the Euretina congress, held September 19-22, 2024, in Barcelona.
