NextGen Healthcare Launches AI-Powered Ambient Listening Solution for Ophthalmologists and Optometrists
NextGen Healthcare has announced the availability of its AI-driven ambient listening solution, NextGen Ambient Assist, for ophthalmologists and optometrists. This technology aims to streamline clinical workflows and significantly reduce documentation burdens, saving medical professionals up to 2 hours per day by transcribing patient-provider conversations in real time and summarizing patient encounters within just 60 seconds.
The latest release is specifically designed to meet the unique demands of eye care professionals. According to NextGen, it enhances the use of ambient listening technology to document eye exams, capturing details and organizing them into structured fields for each section of the eye. Once the provider reviews the AI-generated note and makes necessary edits on their mobile device, the visit summary is securely integrated into the NextGen Enterprise electronic health record (EHR).
Key Features of NextGen Ambient Assist:
- Clinical Context: The AI is trained to understand natural conversation and medical terminology, including acronyms and terms specific to ophthalmology and optometry
- Complete Automation: After the provider approves the notes, no additional steps are needed to transfer information to the EHR, enabling a seamless experience
- Auto-Deletion: To maintain privacy, neither the audio nor transcripts are stored after the visit
- Decision Support: The system offers decision support by suggesting diagnoses and lab or imaging orders based on the patient-provider discussion, which the provider can review and approve
“Since its introduction last year, NextGen Ambient Assist has transformed healthcare for providers across a range of specialties by dramatically improving efficiency,” David Sides, CEO of NextGen Healthcare, said in a company news release. “We are thrilled to extend these time-saving benefits to ophthalmologists and optometrists with a solution tailored to their specific workflows and needs. This will help reduce the risk of burnout and allow providers to focus more on delivering quality care.”
Experience NextGen Ambient Assist at AAO 24
Healthcare professionals will have the chance to experience the technology in person at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) 2024 annual meeting in Chicago from October 18-21. Demonstrations of NextGen Ambient Assist for ophthalmology and optometry will be available at NextGen Healthcare’s booth (#2037).
