New World Medical Launches Ahmed ClearPath ST Non-Valved Glaucoma Drainage Device

New World Medical announced the launch of the Ahmed ClearPath ST, a non-valved glaucoma drainage device designed to broaden surgical options and enhance individualized care for glaucoma patients.
Building on the success of the Ahmed ClearPath, New World Medical says the new ST model introduces key refinements—most notably a smaller tube lumen with a pre-threaded 6-0 Prolene ripcord suture and an included 25-gauge needle for scleral tunneling.
“The Ahmed ClearPath ST represents a significant step forward, allowing glaucoma specialists to overcome long-standing limitations associated with traditional tube shunts,” said Manjool Shah, MD, of The Kellogg Eye Center at The University of Michigan. “The smaller diameter tube enables excellent pressure control with the potential for enhanced safety, improved postoperative management, and personalization of treatment.”
The Ahmed ClearPath portfolio now provides four configurations, combining two plate sizes and two tube sizes:
Plate sizes: 250 mm² and 350 mm²
Tube sizes: Standard tube (305 μm inner / 635 μm outer diameter) and the new ST tube (127 μm inner / 457 μm outer diameter)
New World Medical says this expanded range gives surgeons the ability to tailor implantation to each patient’s anatomy and clinical needs.
Key Features of the Ahmed ClearPath ST
Optimized Plate Design: The 250 mm² plate allows true single-quadrant implantation without rectus muscle isolation, while the 350 mm² plate features a winged design to avoid rectus muscle attachment points
Anterior Fixation Eyelets: Facilitate secure suturing and allow for more posterior plate placement
Globe-Conforming Flexible Material: Promotes a natural fit to the eye contour and encourages a low-lying, diffuse bleb
All-Inclusive Packaging: Ships with a pre-threaded 6-0 Prolene ripcord and a 25-gauge needle for efficient scleral tunneling
The launch of the Ahmed ClearPath ST follows New World Medical's launches earlier this year of the VIA360 Surgical System and an enhanced STREAMLINE Surgical System with a clear tip.
