New Software Update Expands Capabilities of the OD-OS Navilas 577s
OD-OS has released a new software update for its Navilas 577s. With a new multimodal “export wizard,” retina specialists can generate high resolution images of their treatments in different configurations. This allows for advanced, transparent documentation for all purposes and records. It also makes it easier to share knowledge in different scenarios: with colleagues in talks and publications, with residents for teaching purposes, and with patients for education on the treatments performed, according to a company news release.
The Navilas 577s Laser System enables physicians to digitally pre-plan the entire laser therapy on fundus images as well as on third-party diagnostic images, and to precisely execute this therapy plan with the help of computerized image guidance.
The new capabilities of software release 3.6. and the multimodal export wizard allow users to export fundus images captured with the Navilas Laser System and 3rd party diagnostic images (OCT, OCT-A or FA) imported into the system. User can flexibly augment these images by overlaying the laser plan (single laser spots or laser pattern which are digitally “painted” on the image), and export digital reports of the treatments performed.
These flexible, multimodal reports on navigated laser treatments:
- Allow for advanced, transparent documentation of treatments, e.g. for clinical research and medical records.
- Enable easy follow-up and retreatment of target areas, especially for subthreshold approaches where laser burns are often “invisible”.
- Simplify sharing cases in teaching scenarios and academic talks.
- Support patient education through visualization of treatments performed
“One of the challenges when applying subthreshold laser is that when you don’t have visual feedback to know where you’ve administered laser. So with the Navilas documentation, it’s nice, because you can be sure of where you’re applying the laser,” Pradeep Prasad, MD, Chief of Ophthalmology division of the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, said in the news release.
“The Navilas 577s system was also designed with teaching the next generation of laser surgeons in mind. Thanks to the digital pre-planning functionality, supervisors can review laser plans of their residents prior to treatment and monitor treatments on a computer screen in real-time,” Winfried Teiwes, PhD, Managing Director at OD-OS, said in the news release. “Now the multimodal export function adds to its real-time teaching capabilities so that supervisors can more easily perform post-treatment evaluations and share knowledge in teaching scenarios and academic lectures.”
