Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association (NORA) Launches Redesigned Website; Accepts Award Nominations
The Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International (NORA) announced the launch of its redesigned website and new domain name, www.noravisionrehab.org, dedicated to educating patients, caregivers, and health care professionals about neurological recovery and vision rehabilitation.
The newly designed site includes an expanded “Patients & Caregivers” section, offering information about the effect of brain injuries on vision, common vision problems and symptoms following a brain injury, types of treatments, tips for managing vision problems associated with brain injuries; and a “Find a Provider” feature to help those in need find a neuro-optometric rehabilitation optometrist or other health care professional to assist them in their rehabilitation.
“Often one type of rehabilitation is not enough to address all the needs of a person who has experienced a brain injury” NORA vice president DeAnn Fitzgerald, OD, said in a company news release. “An interdisciplinary, integrated team approach can play a vital role in the rehabilitation of patients with concussions, stroke or other neurological deficits as a result of a tumor, aneurism, meningitis, cerebral palsy, or other medical conditions.”
Additional resources are available through the site’s “Patient and Professional Resources” section, which offers links to organizations that can provide more information.
Healthcare professionals can also use the website as a tool for enhancing patient care.
“NORA is committed to advancing professional knowledge and understanding of neuro-optometric care and we are working on updating our Healthcare Professional section to include more educational information to further develop the clinical skills and knowledge for those working in the field of rehabilitation,” adds Dr. Fitzgerald.
NORA also announced that nominations are being accepted for the following awards, which acknowledge individuals and organizations for important contributions to the area of neuro-optometric rehabilitation.

In addition, NORA announced it is offering up to 10 students and residents with an interest in neuro-rehabilitation an opportunity to apply for a student grant to attend the organization’s Clinical Skills Pre-Conference (September 20-21) and 27th annual General Conference (September 21-23) at the Hyatt Regency in St. Louis, MO.
Each grant recipient will receive full conference registration, including tickets to the meeting luncheon and evening banquet, and $300 in travel grant funds. Grant recipients will be required to arrange for their own lodging but can take advantage of a special conference room rate offered by the Hyatt Regency.
To be eligible for the grant program, recipients must attend the full meeting beginning with registration on Wednesday, September 19 through the meeting’s close on Sunday, September 23. Grant recipients will be assigned duties throughout the meeting, including assisting at the registration desk and stamping CE forms after lectures.
To apply for the grant, students/residents must fill out an application on the NORA website, www.noravisionrehab.org, which includes a 1-3 page essay/paper discussing their interest in neuro-optometric rehabilitation. “This essay should be a demonstration of your interest in this area and not a research paper or listing of your courses,” explains Dr. Garbus.
The deadline for submission of an application is August 1, 2018. Winners will be notified by August 15, 2018.
