The Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association, International (NORA), has announced the appointment of Barbara Barclay as its new executive director, effective October 1. Ms. Barclay, an expert in eye-tracking technology and health tech, brings more than 30 years of leadership experience, including two decades focused on technological advancements in healthcare.

Ms. Barclay's background includes her role as president of RightEye, an eye-tracking health tech company, and as the North American general manager for Tobii, a global pioneer in eye-tracking solutions. Her earlier career featured executive positions at LexisNexis, Comscore, and Nielsen.

“Barbara brings a deep understanding of our community, particularly in introducing eye-tracking technologies that improve assessments for conditions such as brain injuries, reading delays, and Parkinson’s disease,” NORA President Charles Shidlofsky, OD, FOVDR, FNAP, said in a news release. “Her expertise will be a tremendous asset as NORA continues to raise awareness of neuro-optometric rehabilitation services and promote interdisciplinary approaches within healthcare teams.”

Ms. Barclay takes the helm from Gary Esterow, who is retiring on September 30 after 6 years of leadership marked by significant growth and adaptation for the nonprofit organization. Under Mr. Esterow’s guidance, NORA expanded its membership base and embraced innovative interdisciplinary strategies in neurorehabilitation.

“I am thrilled to join NORA and collaborate with the board of directors and our members to enhance the education of optometrists and others in neuro-optometric care,” said Ms. Barclay. “Together, we will provide individuals and caregivers with the necessary resources and tools to achieve optimal visual rehabilitation.”

NORA is dedicated to advancing the art and science of rehabilitation, particularly through treatment modalities designed to optimize visual-motor, visual-perceptual, and visual information processing dysfunction in neurologically affected individuals.
