Myopia Profile Unveils “Ask Kate,” an AI-Powered Assistant for Childhood Myopia Management

09/22/2025

Myopia Profile has launched Ask Kate, an AI-powered virtual assistant designed to help eye care professionals (ECPs) address the complex and rapidly evolving challenges of childhood myopia.

According to Myopia Profile, unlike general-purpose AI platforms, Ask Kate is trained exclusively on Myopia Profile’s referenced and clinically validated content, providing real-time, evidence-based responses.

Initial access is available by invitation, with additional practitioners accepted via a registration portal at portal.myopiaprofile.com/ask-kate-invite.

“We created Ask Kate to help busy ECPs cut through the noise of today’s information overload,” said Dr. Kate Gifford, co-founder of Myopia Profile. “AI is a powerful tool for learning, but it can also overwhelm users with excessive, sometimes misleading or inaccurate content. That’s why Ask Kate is built on our rigorously vetted, evidence-based resources, to deliver clear, succinct, and trustworthy answers that practitioners and families can rely on to make informed decisions.”

Ask Kate draws on the continuously updated content of MyopiaProfile.com and MyKidsVision.org, bridging the gap between clinical depth and practical clarity. It speaks the language of practitioners while also offering simplified, parent-friendly explanations to support conversations with families.

“Using Ask Kate has been helpful because I trust the source. It’s reassuring to have a resource designed specifically for our profession that provides clear, accurate, and research-backed answers tailored to individual needs," said Debbie Jones, Clinical Professor at the School of Optometry & Vision Science and Lead Clinical Scientist at the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE).

Spotlight at AAOpt 2025

Ask Kate’s capabilities will be showcased during the American Academy of Optometry Annual Meeting (AAO 2025) in Boston. Dr. Gifford will present pilot study findings in the Optometric Education paper session on Thursday, October 9, at 1:45 p.m.

The study demonstrated that Ask Kate provided more accurate and succinct answers than five leading generative AI platforms. Dr. Gifford will also discuss the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI into healthcare and professional education.

The invite-only release of Ask Kate is the first phase of Myopia Profile’s broader AI initiative. A second version, currently in development for parents and caregivers via MyKidsVision.org, will feature simplified language and curated resources to help families understand childhood myopia and available management options.
