Lighthouse Guild to Host Lectures on Ophthalmic Drug Approvals, Technological Innovations, and Advocacy for People with Vision Impairment

Lighthouse Guild will host three lectures on the latest advances in treatment, technology, and advocacy for people who are blind or have vision loss on Thursday, October 19, 2023, 12-1:30 pm ET, at their headquarters, 250 West 64th Street in Manhattan.
Lectures:
- “Approving New Ophthalmic Drugs” — The process for which new ophthalmic drugs become FDA approved, Wiley A. Chambers, MD. Dr. Chambers is the recipient of the Lighthouse Guild 2023 Alfred W. Bressler Prize for Outstanding Advancements in Vision Science for his supervising of new vision therapeutics at the FDA.
- “Seeing AI: Empowering People with Vision Loss Through the Power of Technology” — Saqib Shaikh, software engineer at Microsoft. Mr. Shaikh is the recipient of the Lighthouse Guild 2023 Pisart Award for Significant Achievements in Technological Innovation for his development of Seeing AI, a free mobile app for people with visual impairments.
- “The Importance of Advocacy for People with Disabilities” — Honorable Carolyn Maloney represented the East Side of Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn and Queens in the U.S. Congress from 1993 to 2023. Ms. Maloney has been awarded the Dr. Alan R. Morse Lecture in Advocacy for People with Vision Impairment for her legislative work supporting people with vision challenges.
