John Weiss Launches the Merilas 810 Shortpulse Laser in the UK

10/06/2020

John Weiss & Son has announced the launch of the Merilas 810 shortpulse laser in the UK.

The Merilas 810 shortpulse laser provides glaucoma and retina treatments and offers new laser therapy for advanced and end-stage glaucoma. The system offers Transscleral Cyclophotocoagulation (TSCPC), which has been shown to safely reduce intraocular pressure in patients where previous medications and treatments were not effective, according to a company news release.

“The laser boasts outstanding usability, and features a rapid start-up time. The detachable touch-screen display features an easy-to-use, intuitive design, ensuring full flexibility for the user. The Merilas 810’s unique thermal-electrical cooling system ensures quiet operation. It requires no ventilation slots, which ensures that no dust can penetrate the interior of the laser,” John Weiss stated in the news release.

“All Merilas lasers are small and compact, allowing easy transportation. Each laser comes with a robust and practical transport case. To ensure safe handling, the continuous wave and short pulse mode are set in separate menus. The wavelength of the laser can be easily identified by the colored ring around the fibre coupling,” according to the news release.

The short pulse mode of the laser consists of alternating short bursts by the laser, meaning the tissue being treated needs less heat, offering a more gentle approach. The 810 wavelength is less absorbed by melanin and haemoglobin and has the advantage of penetrating both the sclera and where the patient demonstrates excessive haemorrhage.
