Johnson & Johnson announced the expansion of its Tecnis Odyssey presbyopia-correcting IOL (PC-IOL) across the US. The Tecnis Odyssey IOL offers patients continuous full-range vision, reducing the need for glasses by providing clear vision from far to near and everything in between[3,6]. Built on the Tecnis platform, the Odyssey delivers 2 times better contrast in low-light conditions compared to PanOptix, along with improved ability to read smaller print and fewer visual disturbances like halos or glare[7,8], according to J&J.

“More than 14,000 eyes have already benefited from TECNIS Odyssey, our new full visual range IOL. The feedback from patients has been overwhelmingly positive, and we’re thrilled to expand its availability across the US,” Peter Menziuso, Company Group Chairman, Vision, Johnson & Johnson, said in a company news release. “Cataract surgery provides patients a unique opportunity to restore and enhance their vision, and with Tecnis Odyssey, they can enjoy sharp, clear sight at every distance without relying on glasses.”

The Tecnis Odyssey IOL employs proprietary technology to deliver superior image quality, even in low-light environments. Its freeform diffractive surface is engineered for continuous, uninterrupted vision across near, intermediate, and far distances, ensuring patients can see clearly for all daily activities, from reading to driving.[7,8,12]

Key outcomes[13,14] from Tecnis Odyssey clinical trials include:

  • 94% of patients were satisfied with their overall vision without glasses
  • 96% of patients were satisfied with their ability to read smartphones or tablets
  • 92% of patients reported being able to see steps and read street signs clearly at night

In addition to the US expansion, the Tecnis Odyssey IOL has received regulatory approval in Japan, the EU, Korea, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. To support this rollout, Johnson & Johnson is launching "Tecnis Odyssey IOL Peer Connect," an interactive platform aimed at fostering direct communication between healthcare professionals and expert surgeons who have used the lens.
