Johnson & Johnson announced new clinical data demonstrating significantly higher end-of-day comfort and stronger overall patient preference for the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism contact lenses compared to Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism. The findings will be presented this week at the American Academy of Optometry’s annual meeting in Boston.

The company will also showcase new research on the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism, the first and only daily disposable multifocal contact lens designed for patients with both presbyopia and astigmatism, expanding vision correction options for this growing patient population.

New data presented by Giovanna Olivares et al. compared Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for Astigmatism with Dailies Total1 for Astigmatism in a head-to-head patient study. Results demonstrated clear, statistically significant advantages across comfort and visual performance metrics:

  • 62% of patients preferred Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day for overall vision, compared to just 18% who preferred Dailies Total1

  • When using digital devices, 65% of patients favored Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day, versus 16% for Dailies Total1

  • Across all comfort measures and overall opinion, Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day scored consistently higher

According to J&J, these findings underscore the benefits of TearStable Technology, OptiBlue Light Filter Technology, and Blink Stabilized Design, which helps maintain lens alignment naturally with each blink, independent of gravity, gaze, or head position.

A second study by Olivares et al., "Evaluation of Treatment Effects in a Study Comparing Two Daily Disposable Toric Soft Contact Lenses," reinforced these results. Participants preferred Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day 3.3 times more often than Dailies Total1. When the Acuvue lens was worn second, positive overall feedback increased to 80%, compared to 33% for Dailies Total1—a statistically observed “order effect,” highlighting the perception shift after experiencing superior lens performance.

In research led by Eugene Appenteng Osae et al., Johnson & Johnson demonstrated that the Acuvue Oasys Max 1-Day Multifocal for Astigmatism delivers comparable vision quality to its non-toric counterpart for patients with 1.00 D to 1.75 D of refractive astigmatism.

Now available in the US, Canada, and select markets across EMEA and APAC, the multifocal toric lens represents a first-in-class innovation in contact lens design and presbyopic eye care.
