J&J Presents New Real-World Data for Tecnis PureSee IOL at ESCRS image

Johnson & Johnson unveiled new real-world evidence supporting the performance of its Tecnis PureSee IOL, a purely refractive, presbyopia-correcting IOL designed to deliver continuous, high-quality vision across distances. The results were presented by Oliver Findl, MD, Chair of Ophthalmology at Hanusch Hospital Vienna, during the 43rd Congress of the ESCRS.

The ongoing multicenter, single-arm, single-visit observational study (ESCRS25-FP-2396) reflects real-world clinical practice across nine sites in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, enrolling 95 bilaterally implanted patients to date. Key outcomes include:

  • Excellent Visual Acuity Across Distances

    • Mean postoperative refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE): 0.10 ± 0.41 D

    • Binocular best-corrected distance VA (BCDVA): -0.09 ± 0.08 logMAR

    • Distance-corrected intermediate VA (66 cm): 0.12 ± 0.10 logMAR

    • Distance-corrected near VA (40 cm): 0.24 ± 0.14 logMAR

    • 91.5% achieved 0.2 logMAR or better intermediate VA; 71.3% achieved 0.3 logMAR or better near VA.

  • High Spectacle Independence

    • Patients reported needing glasses “none” or “a little of the time” for distance (96.8%), intermediate (94.7%), near (58.9%), and overall vision (86.3%)

  • Strong Satisfaction and Recommendations

    • Satisfaction rates were high across distance (93.7%), intermediate (94.7%), and overall vision (91.6%), with 93.7% saying they would recommend the lens to family and friends.

“With over 250,000 implants to date, this latest real-world data reinforces the IOL’s strong clinical performance and outstanding patient outcomes," said Jacqueline Henderson, President, EMEA, Vision at Johnson & Johnson. "Together with the Tecnis Odyssey IOL, we are expanding our portfolio to offer greater choices and personalized solutions to address the evolving presbyopia needs of today’s cataract patients.”

Tecnis PureSee is available across Europe, the Middle East, Canada, Japan, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America, though it has not yet received PMA approval in the United States.
