Inspecs Launches Sustainable Botaniq Eyewear Collection
Inspecs has launched its own sustainable eyewear range called Botaniq. The Botaniq collection, which will initially launch with 48 SKUs across 16 styles, is designed by a team of in-house technical experts at Inspecs, using biodegradeable eyewear materials as a direct response to consumer demand for sustainable products.
Inspecs have factored in the latest natural, recycled and recyclable material innovations to create the Botaniq range. Every element of the collection is hand-crafted with the environment in mind, ensuring that it is sustainable and eco-friendly.
Through the company’s vertically integrated model, Inspecs has visibility of every step of the manufacturing process from design, to sourcing, manufacturing and delivery. The company has been able to reduce the product’s impact on the planet at every stage, including the end life of the frame. Customers will be able to return their old Botaniq glasses and packaging to Inspecs so that every element can be recycled, diverting waste from landfills and incinerators.
All the materials making up the frame are selected for their sustainable qualities and durability such as wood, cork, and bamboo, recycled stainless steel and Natura. One of the principle frame materials is a highly-biodegradable acetate. Bio-based acetate, “Natura,” is tested to ISO14855 and certified by Organic Waste Systems to biodegrade within 120 days under controlled composting conditions –quicker than oak leaves.
Natura, unlike many other sustainable materials, is not only biodegradable but comes in many different colours and textures. Therefore, Inspecs has been able to enhance the design of Botaniq, creating a vibrant collection inspired by nature’s effervescent colors and interesting textures, according to a company news release.
“Our designers have not only thought about sustainability at every step, but they have also considered the consumer. The collection comes in the latest unisex designs for everyday wear, created with every customer in mind, with the price comparable to non-sustainable frames, ensuring that the consumer can make a sustainable decision without an additional cost,” according to Inspecs.
The demo lenses, usually discarded at the time of glazing the frame, have been made recyclable. The packaging is made from recycled cardboard and recyclable plastic bags. Even the eyewear case ships completely flat, reducing carbon footprint.
In partnership with One Tree Planted, Inspecs have ensured that for each frame sold, a tree will be planted to offset the carbon from shipping the product. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization dedicated to global reforestation. They plant trees to restore nature and biodiversity, whilst also providing businesses like Inspecs with sustainability solutions.
When Inspecs came up with the concept for Botaniq, the company wanted to be thoughtful about every element of the product and its packaging, and to manage its full life cycle. This will give the materials from Botaniq frames a second life, diverting waste from landfills and incinerators. Botaniq will be in stock and available from February 2021.
