Haag-Streit Launches Cornea Map Toric Assessment Feature for the Lenstar image

Haag-Streit has unveiled the the cornea map for its flagship Lenstar 900 optical biometer. This feature is designed to provide clinicians with deeper insights into corneal astigmatism, enhancing decision-making in premium IOL implantation for cataract surgery.

The cornea map is designed to offer ophthalmic professionals an efficient and accurate way to assess the regularity and symmetry of astigmatism in the central anterior cornea, critical factors in the selection of toric IOLs. With the activation of a third infrared LED ring, the Lenstar 900 now captures 48 data points—an increase of 16 over previous versions—resulting in a axial curvature map over a 3 mm zone.

According to Haag-Streit, this visualization aids in distinguishing between regular and irregular astigmatism and provides a clinical pathway for recommending or excluding toric lenses, ultimately leading to improved visual outcomes for patients.

"The cornea map is a cost-effective solution that combines precision and efficiency. By enabling simultaneous measurement of axial dimensions, pupillometry, white-to-white (WtW), keratometry, and corneal curvature maps without requiring additional devices or steps, it streamlines cataract surgery planning and saves time while enhancing patient comfort," Haag-Streit statedin a news release.

The cornea map feature will be included standard with all new Lenstar 900 units. Existing users will be able to access the new capability by purchasing a license following the upcoming release of EyeSuite version i9.17.1.
