EyeQue to Launch VisionCheck 2 Do-It-Yourself Smartphone Vision Test

12/11/2020

EyeQue announced the upcoming launch of EyeQue VisionCheck 2, a refraction device available for consumers to test their own vision and order new glasses from home. VisionCheck 2 is a lightweight optical smartphone attachment and mobile app. The test results are expressed as EyeGlass Numbers (EGNs), the lens-power needed to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, which can be used to order new eyeglasses from many online retailers.

“We’re proud to offer a solution that is making a positive impact in people’s lives and provides them a means to see more clearly without having to leave the safety and comfort of home,” John Serri, PhD, co-founder and President of EyeQue, said in a company news release. “This next-generation VisionCheck was born from 2 years’ worth of R&D shaped by customer feedback, including hundreds of testimonials and thousands of survey results. Our team has optimized every aspect of the vision test, from an entirely new form-factor to the reimagined test screens, leading to a markedly better user experience.”

Included with the EyeQue VisionCheck 2 is the EyeQue PDCheck, which the company says instantly and accurately measures the distance between the centers of the pupils of your eyes. Pupillary distance is a critical number needed to order good fitting glasses. Once EGNs and PD are achieved, U.S. customers have the option of ordering EyeQue Try-On Glasses, a low-cost, quick-shipping pair of test-glasses custom-made with your vision test results, so you can experience your EGNs before shopping for new glasses online.

As adoption for telehealth technology accelerates, eyecare professionals can use the device for remote vision testing and to issue eyeglass prescriptions without requiring an in-office visit. Patients’ data is securely stored in the HIPAA-compliant EyeQue Cloud, and ECPs can access data visualization maps to make assessments, customize prescriptions, and monitor patient recovery, according to EyeQue.

The EyeQue VisionCheck 2 is available for pre-order on Kickstarter with pledge levels starting at $57. The product will ship to backers in Q2 2021.
