ESCRS Releases the 2022-2023 EUREQUO Annual Report

08/30/2023

The European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) has released the 2022-2023 EUREQUO annual report. ESCRS is marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the EUREQUO Registry with the announcement that the cataract and refractive database has grown to more than 4 million surgical procedures.

“Fifteen years later, one registry has grown to three with the addition of the European Cornea and Cell Transplantation Registry (ECCTR) and the European Registry of Childhood Cataract (EuReCCA), the latter having commenced in 2022,” said ESCRS President Oliver Findl. “This ESCRS funded project has resulted in more than 18 peer review publications and presentations since its inception and has become a robust data source for European ophthalmologists.”

The ESCRS Registries Steering Committee, which oversees the three registries, continues to work to expand the number of countries and European clinics that are contributing data to the project, with planned expansion in 2024 to Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

This year’s report contains an update on cataract and refractive outcomes based on data contributed from ophthalmologists in 17 countries. The report provides insights into the importance of patient-reported outcomes in value-based health care, as well as welcoming the newest cataract registry to EUREQUO, the Portugal Cataract Registry, which was established in 2017.

“EUREQUO is one of the largest international IT projects in ophthalmology, connecting surgeons all over the world, providing a network to facilitate the exchange of information,” said Anders Behndig and Mor Dickman, chairs of the Registries Steering Committee. “We are energized by what the future holds for the ESCRS Registries.”
