Envision University Sets Agenda for In-Person Spring 2023 Conference

The agenda has been set for the Envision Conference West, which will be held in collaboration with UT Health Department of Occupational Therapy, March 30-April 1, 2023, at the Academic Learning and Teaching Center of UT Health in San Antonio, Texas. The Envision Conference is the only multidisciplinary conference with the goal of closing practice gaps and disseminating the latest advancements in rehabilitation techniques, research and technology.

Early bird registration ends February 28. Both submissions and participant registrations with discounted early registration rates can be made through the Envision Conference website. 

The 2-day schedule of clinical education and research presentations will address topics covering a wide range of specialties, including optometry, occupational therapy, vision scientists, genetics, neurology and other areas. Highlights include:

• "Managing Homonymous Hemianopsia after ABI: Two Case Presentations," with Sandra Fox, OD; Sara Barnard, TVI, COMS, CLVT; and Tracy Floyd, OT, from the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center at the Audie Murphy VA in San Antonio
• "Role of Head Mounted Augmented Reality Device in Improving Visual Function of Individuals with Low Vision," Sarika Gopalakrishnan, PhD, FAAO, of the Envision Research Institute
• "A Step-by-Step Introduction to Hybrid Telehealth Services," with Erika Andersen Ko, CLVT, from Low Vision Beyond the Clinic LLC
• "Pediatric Low Vision Rehabilitation," with Laurie Hoffman, OD, Metrolina Association for the Blind 
• "The Interaction of Light, Color, and Print-Size on Reading Speed in Low Vision," with Aaron Johnson, PhD, Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec
• "Diagnosis and Management for Patients with Inherited Retinal Diseases," with Stephanie Schmiedecke-Barbieri, OD; Patricia Sanchez, PhD, DVM; Joyce Zhang, OD, the University of the Incarnate Word, Rosenberg School of Optometry, San Antonio
• "Recognizing & Identifying the Psychosocial impact of Vision Loss." Ana Perez, OD, Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Adjunct Faculty, University of Houston College of Optometry, Houston, Texas
• "Determinates of Goal Setting by Occupational Therapists for Patients with Low Vision," Theresa Smith, PhD, OTR, CLVT, from Rehab Essentials and The Rehab Firm, Occupational Therapy Low Vision Rehabilitation

 “The sessions and presentations for this year’s Envision Conference West are ones that we’re really looking forward to hosting–and we’re excited to be collaborating with UT Health Department of Occupational Therapy,” Michael Epp, Envision’s manager of professional education, said in a news release. “The multi-faceted conference fosters conversations and information sharing among low vision professionals and specialists in a variety of related fields from across the world, ultimately raising the bar for care that will help so many confronted by vision issues and other related and unrelated challenges.”

All education and research sessions offer the opportunity to earn continuing education credits from agencies such as:

• The Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE)
• American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA)
• Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP)
