Coherent Ships 5,000th OEM ExciStar Device

Coherent recently delivered the 5,000th OEM ExciStar laser for refractive corneal surgery.

“The longevity of the laser components and the excellent pulse stability at the ultra-short 193 nm laser wavelength have made the ExciStar family the ideal ablation source for ever faster and more precise corneal ablation over the last 2 decades and made Coherent the global market leader in this medical application area,” Coherent stated in a news release. “With its extremely short UV wavelength, the ExciStar also plays a leading role in industrial precision marking of spectacle lenses and laser marking of diamonds. Further applications can be found in laser-based protein and solid sample analysis.”
