American Academy of Optometry Announces 2026 Retina Summit in Indianapolis

03/10/2026

The American Academy of Optometry has announced the 2026 Retina Summit, a 1-day continuing education program focused on advancing clinical knowledge and patient care in retinal disease. The event will take place Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will be open to both Academy members and nonmembers.

Organized by the Academy’s Retina Special Interest Group, the summit will provide 6.5 hours of continuing education through expert-led presentations covering current developments in retinal diagnosis, imaging, and disease management.

Academy Fellows Mohammad Rafieetary, OD, FAAO, and Roya Attar, OD, MBA, FAAO, will lead sessions addressing a range of retinal topics, including diabetic retinopathy, advanced multimodal retinal imaging, advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) diagnosis, and inherited retinal diseases.

The program is designed to provide clinicians with practical insights into emerging technologies and treatment strategies that are shaping retinal care. Attendees will participate in an interactive educational environment that encourages discussion and engagement with leading experts in the field. In addition to educational sessions, the summit will feature opportunities for attendees to connect with industry exhibitors and explore new technologies and tools designed to support retinal diagnosis and management in clinical practice.

“We want to provide the profession with top-level education outside of the annual meeting, and this is the first of two synchronous in-person opportunities in 2026,” said Jeffrey Walline, OD, PhD, FAAO, president of the American Academy of Optometry. “The education will maintain the high standard of all education presented at the Academy and include opportunities to interact with educators and industry in a personal setting.”

Registration for the Retina Summit is $299 for Academy members and $399 for nonmembers. Additional details about the program, speakers, and registration are available at aaopt.org/retina.
