Altris Launches New Artificial Intelligence Platform for Automated OCT Scans

Altris Inc. announced the launch of Altris AI, an artificial-intelligence-powered software platform designed to automate OCT examination. The secure, cloud-based platform provides fast analysis and visualization of 100 pathologies and pathological signs, including rare ones, according to Altris.

How does Altris AI work?

Screening: After the OCT scan has been uploaded, the AI model assesses the b scans (up to 512) and differentiates between normal scans, and scans with moderate and severe pathology.

Segmentation/Classification: Users enable pathology detection and visualization with artificial intelligence. The algorithm, trained on thousands of OCT scans, defines 100 retina pathologies and pathological signs. 

Additional features allow the retinal layers to be identified and measured along with the ability to compare progression over time by comparing historical scans. On average, uploading and analysis of the macula scan by the algorithm takes about 1 minute, according to Altris.

“The combination of the modules support the ECP to become more proficient with OCT interpretation and diagnosis, as the algorithm can clearly and quickly identify and display pathologies and the degree of severity,” said Maria Znamenska, PhD, Chief Medical Officer, Ophthalmology, at Altris. “ECPs can also become more efficient as non–pathological scans are easily identified removing the need to review all b-scans in a macula scan. These features will allow the ECP to diagnose and treat patients or refer them quickly and effectively improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.”

The platform has 91% cumulative artificial intelligence accuracy, according to Altris.

It is compatible with all OCT equipment and types of files (DICOM, jpg, pdf). It is CE-marked, and FDA clearance is pending. 

Altris AI is now available for individual practitioners or eye clinics and optometry centers and can be tested for free.
