Alcon Unveils PRECISION7 1-Week Contact Lens with ACTIV-FLO Technology

Alcon announced the US launch of PRECISION7, the first contact lens designed for a 1-week replacement cycle. Leveraging the 7-day ACTIV-FLO system, these lenses are designed to deliver up to 16 hours of exceptional comfort and clear vision, even on the seventh day of wear. According to Alcon, despite nearly 90% of eye care professionals (ECPs) favoring daily disposable lenses for better hygiene and comfort, over half of new contact lens patients still opt for reusable options due to cost constraints. The launch of PRECISION7 aims to address this issue, providing a more intuitive, affordable weekly replacement schedule, which many optometrists believe will be easier for patients to remember compared to the traditional 2-week cycle[1, 3-4].

"We are making history with the bold innovation of PRECISION7," Max Wolf, General Manager, Head of Vision Care and Contact Lenses at Alcon, said in a company news release. “With our first-of-its-kind ACTIV-FLO technology, patients can now start and end each week with fresh lenses. This is also the first time we are introducing both sphere and toric lenses simultaneously in the US market, allowing ECPs to immediately address a wide range of patient needs."

Alcon says PRECISION7 leverages ACTIV-FLO, a cutting-edge system that combines a moisturizing agent embedded in the lens matrix with a unique replenishing agent. This proprietary technology ensures continuous hydration for 7 full days, making it ideal for wearers who experience discomfort with other reusable lenses [2.5].

“Data shows that three out of four contact lens wearers want their ECPs to inform them about new technologies,” said Jason Compton, OD, FAAO. “PRECISION7 offers a practical solution for patients who cannot opt for daily disposables. It provides long-lasting comfort and precise vision at a more accessible price point.”

The introduction of PRECISION7 adds to Alcon’s WaterInnovations suite, which already includes products like DAILIES TOTAL1, PRECISION1, and TOTAL30. These lenses are specifically designed to combat digital device dryness and other challenges associated with modern visual demands.

Availability and Market Expansion

• Immediate Access: Selected ECPs in the U.S. are now offering PRECISION7 lenses
• Broader Release: The product will be available across the US in January 2025, with international markets set to follow shortly after.

The PRECISION7 lens is available in both sphere and toric versions. This simultaneous launch is a first for Alcon in the US.
