Alcon announced the US and Canadian launch of 'wavelight plus,' which the describers as the first fully personalized LASIK treatment.

According to Alcon, the wavelight plus system leverages cutting-edge ray tracing technology, powered by the Sightmap diagnostic device, to build a highly detailed three-dimensional “digital eye twin” for each patient. This model is created from more than 100,000 data points, integrating ocular wavefront, corneal tomography, and biometry measurements. By removing reliance on nomogram inputs, surgeons benefit from streamlined planning and predictable, reproducible results.

“Wavelight plus marks an exciting new chapter in Alcon’s journey to provide personalized precision in laser eye surgery,” said Sergio Duplan, Alcon Senior Vice President and President, Americas. “For the first time, surgeons in the U.S. and Canada will have the opportunity to deliver a fully tailored refractive treatment that takes into account the unique features of each patient’s eyes.”

Real-world evidence and clinical studies highlight the exceptional outcomes possible with wavelight plus:

  • 100% of myopic eyes achieved uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) of 20/20 at 3 months

  • 89% achieved UDVA of 20/16 and 50% reached 20/12.5 at 3 months

  • 98% of eyes achieved UDVA within one line of their preoperative corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA)

  • 94% of eyes achieved the same or better CDVA compared to baseline at 3 months

Before its U.S. and Canadian debut, wavelight plus was introduced in China and several European and Asia-Pacific markets. The Canadian commercial launch is scheduled for late 2025, with broader availability expected to follow.

For interested surgeons, Alcon encourages direct contact with local representatives for detailed information on implementation and training. Patients considering LASIK are advised to consult a qualified refractive surgeon to determine eligibility.
