Adolescents With Strabismus More Likely to Have Psychological Problems
Adolescents with visible eye deviation due to strabismus may be prone to psychological problems, researchers in Turkey report.
“The visible eye deviation caused by strabismus was a strong indicator of psychological distress in adolescent patients,” Dr. Serdar Ozates of the Children’s Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital in Ankara told Reuters Health by email.
“Physicians should consider predisposition to psychiatric disorders in patients with manifest strabismus and refer them to a psychiatrist for definite diagnosis and proper care,” he advised.
