AcuFocus Appoints Industry Leader John Garland as Global Vice President of Sales
AcuFocus announced that it has appointed John Garland as its Global Vice President of Sales. In his new role, he will be responsible for global sales strategy and will focus initially on building the US sales field team.
Mr. Garland brings more than 30 years of experience to the position with an expertise in strategic sales, sales management, marketing strategy, and customer service. He has translated his passion for improving eyesight around the globe into a career dedicated to bringing transformative medical devices to ophthalmologists and their patients.
“We are thrilled to welcome John Garland to our team, as he is a respected leader in the industry with exceptional technical acumen who encapsulates AcuFocus’ values by putting patients first,” Alan Waterhouse, President and Chief Executive Officer, AcuFocus, said in a company news release. “John will play a crucial role in helping to grow our sales force and position AcuFocus for continued success as the company prepares for the launch of its small-aperture intraocular lens in the U.S.”
In February 2021, AcuFocus submitted a premarket approval application to the FDA for its IC-8 small-aperture intraocular lens. The device, designed to provide continuous, extended depth of focus and enhanced adaptability, is already approved for use outside the U.S. in select markets.
As Global Vice President of Sales at MicroSurgical Technology since 2017, Mr. Garland directed strategic and profit-and-loss management for all aspects of the global sales and customer service organizations, with shared marketing responsibility spanning 56 countries. From April to November of 2017, he served as acting Co-President of the company, and before that, starting in 2015, he was Vice President of Sales, North America.
“I am excited to join AcuFocus as the company continues to grow and thrive internationally,” Mr. Garland said. “I look forward to launching the IC-8 IOL in the United States and bringing this first-of-its-kind small aperture technology to patients striving to achieve their best personal vision.“
