Ocumetics Technology announced the successful first-in-human implantation of its accommodating intraocular lens (IOL), the Ocumetics Lens.

The Ocumetics Lens is designed to restore the eye’s natural range of focus by working in harmony with the patient’s own ciliary muscle and natural eye movements. Unlike traditional monofocal or multifocal IOLs, which can leave patients dependent on glasses or compromise visual quality, this lens aims to provide clear vision at all distances from near to far without corrective eyewear.

"What many once thought impossible is now reality. This achievement is not the work of one person or one idea, but the result of years of persistence by an extraordinary team of scientists, engineers, clinical advisors, and partners who refused to let go of a vision to transform human sight," Dean Burns, President, CEO and Director of Ocumetics Technology, stated in a letter posted on its website.

Following the initial successful implants, Ocumetics said it will continue to advance its clinical trial program, focusing on safety, efficacy, and long-term performance of the device.
