Johnson & Johnson to Spotlight Tecnis IOL Data and Innovations at ESCRS 2025

09/05/2025

Johnson & Johnson announced its upcoming scientific data presentations and onsite activities at the 43rd European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) Congress, taking place September 12116, 2025, in Copenhagen.

The company will unveil new data reinforcing the clinical performance of the Tecnis IOL platform.

Key Scientific Presentations

Visual and Refractive Outcomes in Post-Laser Vision Correction Patients

  • Presenter: Mr. Stephen Stewart

  • Date/Time: Sunday, September 14, 2025 | 09:15–10:45 CET
Findings show that the new refractive partial range of field extended IOL provided a broad range of vision, minimal side effects, and high patient satisfaction in individuals with prior refractive surgery. Expanded data will include subgroup outcomes based on previous hyperopic vs. myopic corrections and results from 30 additional bilateral patients.

TECNIS PureSee IOL vs. TECNIS 1-Piece IOL: Visual Outcomes and Defocus Curves

  • Presenter: Dr. Helena Noguera

  • Date/Time: Monday, September 15, 2025 | 14:15–15:45 CET
The TECNIS PureSee™ IOL demonstrated superior intermediate and near vision compared with the monofocal TECNIS™ 1-Piece IOL, while maintaining excellent distance vision and a stable defocus curve. Notably, no halos or glare were reported in either group.

Tolerance to Induced Astigmatism Across IOL Categories

  • Presenter: Dr. Karolinne Rocha, M.D., Ph.D.

  • Date/Time: Monday, September 15, 2025 | 09:15–10:45 CET
Study results revealed that enhanced monofocal IOLs demonstrated better tolerance to induced oblique and against-the-rule astigmatism compared to other IOL types. Across all groups, with-the-rule astigmatism was best tolerated.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis: Enhanced vs. Monofocal IOLs

  • Presenter: Dr. Joaquin Fernandez (E-poster)
This review confirmed high-certainty evidence that the TECNIS Eyhance™ IOL improves intermediate and near acuity versus standard monofocal IOLs. While data on contrast sensitivity and patient-reported outcomes remain moderate to low, Eyhance continues to set the benchmark among enhanced monofocal IOLs.
